great scuba diving video from Cozumel, Mexico

Here's a nice video from Cozumel, Mexico showcasing all the underwater and reef animals. Great extended turtle and octopus sequences, barracuda, and an incredibly cute video of a large and small seahorse couple - are the seahorses parent and child, couple or just friends?

following a Leopard Shark in Thailand

Here's an extended scuba diving video taken at Bida Nok, near Phi Phi Island in Thailand which follows a leopard shark underwater. I just love watching leopard sharks, but unfortunately have never seen one in person. Time for a Thailand scuba diving vacation!

Hammerheads by the dozens in the Galapagos - video

Great video of a scuba diving trip to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador around Darwin's Arch. Very dramatic music and really well shot, especially given the always difficult diving and visibility challenges in the Galapagos. It starts slow, but halfway through you get to see tons of schooling hammerhead sharks, hanging around a big whale shark and even a manta ray, which I never say during out trip there 6 years ago.

Great Barrier Reef has slowest growth in 400 years

From the BBC comes news that Coral growth in Australia's Great Barrier Reef has had it's slowest growth in the past 400 years. Researchers from the Australian Institute of Marine Science studied 328 colonies of corals from 69 locations around Australia, and concluded that global warming and the increasing acidity of seawater are the culprits. Galapagos dolphin splashes and schooling Hammerheads

There is some really interesting Galapagos footage here, albeit rather dark. The opening minute was definitely the best - with Darwin's Arch in the background, you can watch slow-motion video of dolphins flying up out of the water! The rest of the video is typical Galapagos Islands scuba diving with whale sharks, eagle rays, seals and great schooling hammerhead sharks.
